Applications
Triethanolamine is a viscous liquid widely used as a corrosion inhibitor, a surface-active agent and an intermediate in various products including oils, fuels, paints, inks, cement, cosmetic and personal products. Primarily, Triethanolamine is used in making surfactants. It is used as a corrosion inhibitor. It is used as a neutralizer for fatty acids. It is used as a buffering agent and pH regulator. It is used as a neutralizing agent in water-based coatings, as a chain lengthener in polyol-based polyurethane foams and elastomers, as a neutralizing agent in water-based inks, as a pH buffer and anti-corrosion additive in metal working fluids, as a fabric softener in textile formulations. It is also utilized as a solvent for dyes, shellac, natural rubber, and casein.
