Magnesium sulfate heptahydrate Granular USP is a white crystalline solid, soluble in water but not in ethanol. Epsom salt crystals, also known as magnesium sulfate heptahydrate, are a versatile product with a wide range of uses and applications. They are commonly used in bath salts and foot soaks to soothe sore muscles and promote relaxation for the personal care industry. Epsom salt crystals can also be used as a natural fertilizer for plants, as a laxative for constipation relief, and as a remedy for insect bites and sunburns. Additionally, they are used in the production of various industrial products, such as textiles, paper, and pharmaceuticals. Magnesium Sulfate Heptahydrate is employed in explosives, matches, mineral water, and tanning leather. It is also used in weighing cotton and silk, increasing the bleaching action of chlorinated lime, manufacture of mother-of-pearl and frosted papers and fire-proofing fabrics. Magnesium Sulfate Heptahydrate has been used in a simple medium that preserves low concentrations of E. coli for use in the water bacteriology proficiency test.
