Applications
Magnesium carbonate powder is an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) is a medicinal substance commonly used in the production of pharmaceutical drugs. It is a white, odorless solid that is typically used as an antacid to neutralize stomach acid and provide relief from heartburn and indigestion. Magnesium carbonate is also commonly used as a dietary supplement to increase magnesium levels in the body and prevent magnesium deficiency. As an API, magnesium carbonate must meet the strict requirements of the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) for purity, quality, and potency. Magnesium Carbonate USP for compounding is used as an excipient (inactive ingredient) in medication compounding. It is mainly used as a filler or bulking agent to increase the volume and stability of medications. It may also be used as an anti-caking agent or to adjust the pH of formulations. In some cases, it may also have a therapeutic effect, such as in antacids for the treatment of heartburn or indigestion.
