Hexane

Applications

Hexane is a non-polar colorless liquid that is used to extract edible oils from seeds and vegetables, as a special-use solvent, and as a cleaning agent. It is used as a cleaning agent in the furniture, printing, shoe-making, and textile industries. It is employed as a solvent in olefin polymerization and extraction solvent in oilseed processing. It is used as a reference material and non-polar solvent in chromatography, and as a solvent in cosmetics. It is utilized as a solvent and reagent in chemical synthesis. A typical laboratory use of hexanes is to extract oil and grease contaminants from water and soil for analysis.
