Applications
Glycolic acid is a colorless, odorless liquid and the smallest α-hydroxy acid (AHA). It is used to manufacture adhesives, dye, print, medicines, and crease-proof textiles. Glycolic Acid is also used in leather dyeing, as a tanning agent, in detergents, welding agent, adhesives, plastics, oil well acidification, electroplating, copper pickling, printed wire board flux, soldering products, etching lithographic plates, iron chelating, chemical milling, metal cleaning and demulsifier. Glycolic acid is often included into emulsion polymers, solvents and additives for ink and paint in order to improve flow properties and impart gloss. It is used in surface treatment products that increase the coefficient of friction on tile flooring. It is the active ingredient in household cleaning products like Pine-Sol. Glycolic acid is an outstanding choice for a broad range of cleaning applications due to its dual functional groups, hydroxyl (OH) and carboxyl (COOH). The dual functionality enables exceptional cleaning performance for mineral and hard water scales.
