Applications
Formic acid, the simple carboxylic acid is a colorless liquid. A major use of Formic Acid, is as a preservative and antibacterial agent in livestock feed. It is also used for decalcifier; reducer in dyeing for wool fast colours; dehairing and plumping hides; tanning; electroplating; coagulating rubber latex; silage and grain preservation; additive in regenerating old rubber; solvents of perfume; lacquers; alkylating agent for alcohols; carboxylating agent for tertiary compounds. Its used in water treatment and dyeing and finishing paper, also in the production of fumigants and refrigerants. It is also used as an intermediate for the production of a wide variety of products in the chemicals and pharmaceutical industries.
