Applications
Calcium Carbonate is used in variety of applications; it is used mainly in the construction industry as a building material, and as an ingredient in cement. It is also used in the paper, plastics, paints and coatings industries as a neutralizing agent, filler and coating pigment. Calcium carbonate is also used in the rubber industry as an extender. Calcium carbonate is used widely as an effective dietary calcium supplement, antacid, phosphate binder, or base material for medicinal tablets. It also is found on many grocery store shelves in products such as baking powder, toothpaste, dry-mix dessert mixes, dough, and wine. Calcium carbonate can be used to regulate the acidity or alkalinity of foods such as fruit juices, pastes and preserves. Raising agent: calcium carbonates are effective raising agents and pH regulators for baked products. Calcium carbonate is the active ingredient in agricultural lime, and is used in animal feed. It is also used in the Plastics Industry as an extender.
